The College of Education, Akwanga (COEAKWANGA), is a state-owned institution established as the Advanced Teachers College Akwanga (ATCA) in 1976. The Advanced Teachers College was founded to resolve the gross inadequacy of primary and secondary school teachers in then Plateau Province, which was part and parcel of the present-day Nasarawa State.

Located in Akwanga town in Nasarawa State, the institution commenced academic activities at a temporary site in Jos town. A campus was, however, situated in Akwanga. On the 1st of September, 1985, the institution relocated to its permanent location in Akwanga.

The College of Education’s mission is “to produce highly qualified teachers for primary and post primary schools in Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large.”

The college is aimed at offering courses that lead to the award of the Nigeria Certificate in Education. Upon completion, candidates will qualify as teachers in teachers training colleges and primary and secondary schools.

Candidates are required to pay a screening fee of two thousand naira using their ATM cards or by visiting any commercial bank of their choice. Payment can be made after generating the RRR code.

After successfully completing and printing out the online form, candidates should bring a copy of the online application form, along with other credentials, to the aptitude test venue.

Candidates will be communicated regarding the entrance examination. It makes it essential to submit valid phone numbers and email addresses.

 College of Education Akwanga Resumption Date

College of Education, Akwanga resumed academic activities on the 18th of January, 2021. The management approved this date following a directive from the Federal Ministry of Education.

The Federal Government announced that schools should resume on this said due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students are advised to adhere to the guidelines given by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). They should maintain social distancing, wear face masks at all times and wash their hands regularly.

A Guide to Studying at the College of Education Agbor

The College of Education, Agbor is a state-owned institution founded in October 1979. Located in Agbor, Delta State, the college was founded by the former Bendel State Government to train professional teachers for the country’s educational sector. After this training, qualified students will be awarded the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).

The then Governor of former Bendel State, Late Professor Ambrose Alli, officially opened the College of Education, Agbor, in 1981.

Following Delta State’s creation in 1991, the institution is currently owned by the Delta State Government.

The mission of the College of Education, Agbor is “to produce well motivated teachers that are capable of adopting appreciable expertise in pedagogy and ICT to develop the intellectual capacity of student at the basic education level.”

The Federal College of Education, Obudu is a government-owned institution located in Obudu, Cross River State.

The institution was founded by the first Executive President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, in 1982, as a regular college. It started operations within the premises of Government Secondary School, Obudu.

The Federal College of Education, Obudu, was initially controlled by the Federal Ministry of Education. On January 10, 1983, the institution commenced academic activities. It started with about 140 students and 6 staff.

The institution was initially an affiliate of the University of Calabar. It was, however, granted autonomous status along with some other federal colleges of education in 1986.

The Federal College of Education, Obudu, invites qualified candidates to apply for its Post UTME form.

Candidates must have chosen the Federal College of Education, Obudu, as their first institution choice and scored a minimum of 160 in UTME. Candidates who did not choose the institution as their first choice can do so by applying for a change of institution with JAMB.

To apply for the Post UTME form, candidates should follow the procedure outlined below:

  • Generate a RRR. The application form attracts a fee of two thousand naira. To make payments, candidates should pay online using their ATM cards or visit Zenith bank or First bank.
  • After making payment, continue registration by providing the required information.

Print a copy after completing the application form. Also, attach photocopies of credentials to the application form.

The credentials should include the JAMB result slip. Afterwards, submit the documents to the Degree Programme Unit. The institution will communicate the specified date and time for the Post UTME aptitude test, which will be held on the school premises.

To be considered for admission, UTME candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Candidates should possess a minimum of 5 credit passes in relevant subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) at O’ Level. It must be obtained at not more than two sittings.
  • Candidates should have written the 2020 UTME and scored at least 160.

The College of Education, Warri, is a state-owned college of education founded in 1979. Located in the South-South part of Nigeria, Delta, to be precise, the institution trains students to become highly-qualified teachers for the education sector.

In 1955, the implementation of free primary education in the then Bendel State led to the production of several first school leaving certificate holders.

Due to high school fees and the non-availability of secondary schools, several primary school leavers could not go beyond that level.

The defunct Bendel State Government introduced free education in 1979. There was, therefore, increased demand for secondary schools. After the government established secondary schools, there was a need for more qualified teachers. It was one of the reasons for the establishment of the College of Education, Warri.

The College of Education, Warri, was initially founded as an Advanced Teachers’ College. In 1980, the then Governor, Professor Ambrose Alli, officially opened the institution. Its name changed to the College of Education, Ihogbe, Benin City. The institution was moved to Warri in 1980.

The College of Education, Warri admits students from several parts of Nigeria irrespective of their religious or ethnic background. The institution has made the tuition affordable. It also provides facilities such as spacious classrooms and accommodation. It runs degree programmes in education.

The Federal College of Education, Zaria is a government-owned institution located in Zaria, Kaduna State. Previously called the Advance Teachers’ College (A.T.C), the institution was authorized to commence academic operations in 1963. It, however, opened formally in 1962.

The college was founded with the aim of producing qualified non-graduate teachers to train students in secondary schools and Teacher Training Colleges.

Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo is a government-owned institution founded in 1977. Formerly known as Federal Advanced Teacher’s College (Special), the college is regarded as one of the most remarkable institutions with highly-trained staff in Special Education in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.

Federal College of Education, Oyo has the largest group of students with disabilities that can be found in any higher institution in the country. The institution also has the largest concentration of specialized teaching and training facilities for teachers with disabilities in Nigeria.

To qualify for the Post UTME screening, candidates should meet the following requirements:

NCE Programme:

  • Candidates should have scored a minimum of 120 in 2020 UTME and chosen the Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo as their first institution choice.
  • Candidates who did not choose FCE Special Oyo as their first choice but scored a minimum of 120 in JAMB can also apply. The condition is that they change their first institution choice to FCE Special Oyo.

Pre-NCE Programme:

  • Candidates who did not meet the required credit pass in relevant subjects at O’ Level.
  • Candidates who did not score up to 120 in 2020 UTME

Requirements for the screening exercise:

  • Candidates are required to bring along two copies of the UTME E-notification of results slip.
  • Candidates should complete the admission screening form from the 1st of July, 2020.
  • Candidates should provide their O’ Level results and original and photocopy of the completed admission screening application form.
  • Candidates who did not choose FCE Special Oyo as their first institution choice should provide the print-out slip of institution change.

To apply for the Post UTME Form, follow these steps:

  • Pay the non-refundable application fee of two thousand naira.
  • Complete the online application form and submit it.
  • Upload scanned copies of passport photograph and O’ Level result(s). The passport photograph should contain a white background, and its size should not be more than 100kb. It should also be in JPG or JPEG format.
  • Candidates should print out the online application form.

Federal College of Education, Kano, is a government-owned institution founded in 1961. The college started as Kano Men’s Training College. The Ministry of Education’s joint efforts in the north and the United State Agency for International Aid (USAID) gave rise to the establishment of the institution. It was under the leadership of the then Sardauna of Sakkwato, Sir. Ahmadu Bello.

The institution was renamed Kano Teachers College. When the Nigeria Certificate of Education (NCE) programme was introduced, its name was changed to Advanced Teachers College.

The Federal Government of Nigeria took over the institution in 1990, and its name finally became ‘The Federal College of Education, Kano.’

The mission of FCE Kano is “to prospect, incubate and hatch qualitative education to bridge the manpower gaps in the sciences, arts, social sciences and vocational education compliant with contemporary needs of education in Nigeria and beyond.”

Federal College of Education, Kano, invites qualified candidates for admission into its NCE, Undergraduate, Technical, Part-Time, Science, and other programmes for the 2020/2021 academic session.

Qualified candidates are those who have chosen the Federal College of Education, Kano as their first choice of institution in 2020 UTME and possess the minimum cut off mark.

To be qualified for admission, candidates should possess the requirements enlisted below:

  • Candidates with the Grade II Teacher’s certificate should possess at least five credit passes in relevant subjects.
  • Candidates possessing O’ Level result should possess at least four credit passes in relevant subjects. The credit passes should be obtained at not more than two sittings.
  • These credit passes should include relevant subjects, including English Language. If Mathematics is relevant to your chosen course, it becomes one of the essential subjects.

Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, is a government-owned institution founded in 1976 and located in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Previously known as Federal Advanced Teachers College, it was the first tertiary institution established in Ogun State. Before relocating to its permanent site, the college was run in Abeokuta Grammar School compound. In 1978, the college moved to its permanent site in Osiele.

Candidates seeking admission into the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta must meet the following requirements:

  • Candidates are required to take some documents along to the Admissions Office. Some of these documents include the UTME result slip, online registration form, to mention a few.

The Niger State College of Education, Minna, is an institution founded in 1975 as an advanced teacher’s college.

With the aim of producing highly trained teachers, the North-Western State Government established the advanced teacher’s college. The institution became a College of Education in 1983. The administrative secretary became the Registrar, and the principal became the provost.

Niger State College of Education’s mission is “to be recognized as a center of excellence in higher education and to re-strategize as a center of excellence in higher education and training, for quality education and sustainable rejuvenation of the education system so as to meet the development yearnings of people of Niger State.”

 History of Niger State College of Education, Minna

Niger State College of Education, Minna, was previously an advanced teacher’s college. It was established to create an additional Advanced Teachers College in the north. It was, however, upgraded to a College of Education in 1983.

The Niger State College of Education, Minna, was founded by the defunct North Western State Government as an advanced teacher’s college when an additional Advanced Teachers College was required to meet teachers’ searing needs in the state.

Dr. Umar Sanda Ahmadu was the college’s first Principal and Provost, succeeding Dr. Gambo T. Yusuf in 1988, Dr. Bukar Emmanuel Naroko Dauda in 1993, Professor Ibrahim Kolo in 2001, and Professor Faruk Rashid Haruna in 2009. In September 2009, the new provost assumed service.

The first administrative secretary and registrar of the college was Alhaji Muhammed Giwa. In August 1993, Alhaji Ismaila Mohammed Lawas succeeded him. After Alhaji Ismaila Muhammad left for a permanent secretary of state role, he was succeeded by Alhaji Yusuf Muhammed Makusidi as registrar in 2007. Mal. A. D., the present registrar, came into office in 2009.
