The government of Oyo has closed an unlawful tertiary institution in Oke-Ogun.

by ajibolaaina March 5, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

The Oke-Ogun College of Management Sciences and Technology, Iseyin, was ordered closed indefinitely by the Oyo State Government on Tuesday, March 1st, due to non-compliance with registration processes.

According to Barrister Rahman Abiodun Abdu-Raheem, the state Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, some indigenes of the town had petitioned the Oyo state government and the federal government, alleging that the institution was neither registered nor accredited to accept students for enrollment.

It was learned that Barrister Abdu-Raheem had earlier this month invited and asked the Proprietor of the College, Mr. Adewale Owoseni, to remove any billboards with the school’s inscriptions till the necessary steps were taken.

The commissioner advised school proprietors to always do the required in their efforts to build schools in order to prevent unneeded embarrassment for both the state and the proprietors.

Kwara state tertiary institutions have threatened to go on strike.

Kwara state tertiary institutions have threatened to go on strike.

by ajibolaaina March 5, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

Workers in Kwara-owned tertiary institutions, united under the aegis of the Committee of Unions in Tertiary Institutions (CUTI), have given the government a 14-day ultimatum on the beginning of industrial action.

According to a statement issued by Mr. AbdulLateef Yahya, the state Public Relations Officer (PRO) of CUTI, the state administration must adopt the National Minimum Wage within 14 days, or else face the threat of industrial action in all of the state’s institutions.

In a statewide tour of CUTI, Yahya said, the association reached the decision to go on strike after speaking with stakeholders at joint congresses held at Oro and Lafiagi Colleges of Education, as well as the College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS) in Ilorin, among other places.

The association described the exclusion of state tertiary institutions from the implementation of the new minimum wage as unfair, and stated that all efforts by the Committee, including several letters and meetings with state government representatives, on the need to include CUTI in the minimum wage were in vain.
