How the Amity Online Career Portal Works

Amity University Online provides students with a dedicated career portal where job openings are posted on a regular basis.
When job openings are published, you can filter through them to find listings aligned with your domain or niche. On the portal, students can also use Amity’s built-in Resume Builder to create an ATS-friendly resume directly within the platform.
Here is the step-by-step breakdown of how my selection process unfolded:

The Selection Pipeline: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Application & Resume Shortlisting

I identified a job opening on the career portal that perfectly matched my specialization and applied. My resume—created using the portal’s resume builder—was successfully shortlisted for the next stage.

Step 2: Company Introduction Session

After shortlisting, candidates received an official email inviting them to a live Company Introduction Round.
To give you an idea of how the filtering process works in practice:
  • Initial Applicants: ~60 students applied.
  • Resume Shortlisted: ~40 students received invitation emails.
  • Session Attendees: ~30 students actually attended the live presentation.
During this session, the company’s HR representatives presented an overview of the organization, its domain, company history, and specific hiring requirements (such as whether they were looking for freshers or experienced professionals).

Step 3: Group Discussion (GD) Round

Following the company presentation, shortlisted candidates were invited to a Group Discussion. Around 25 students participated in this stage.
The format was fast-paced and interactive:
  1. The HR moderator posed a question to the group.
  2. Candidates had to quickly raise their virtual hands on a signal (count of 1 to 3).
  3. The HR selected speakers based on promptness and evaluated candidates on communication skills, logical reasoning, and domain knowledge.
My performance cleared the benchmark, and I moved on to the next phase.

Step 4: Personal Interview (PI) Round

The Personal Interview focused heavily on core professional competencies and career intent. Key topics covered during my interview included:
  • Total relevant work experience
  • My current job role and daily responsibilities
  • My specific reasons for seeking a career transition
  • Specialized skills and technical capabilities
After evaluating my responses, the panel shortlisted me for the final offer discussion.

Step 5: Salary & Offer Discussion

The final round involved a meeting with two company representatives, including an HR lead. During this discussion, we finalized:
  • Compensation structure (CTC and components)
  • Employee benefits
  • Work location
  • Target joining date
Everything was finalized, and I was officially extended the job offer!

Why I Turned Down the Offer

Despite successfully clearing every round of the selection process, I declined the offer.
Declining the job came down to two major non-negotiable factors:
  1. Immediate Joining Requirement vs. Notice Period: The company required an immediate joiner. Since I was already employed elsewhere, my current company’s policy required a standard 30 to 45-day notice period. I could not ethically or professionally leave my existing employer without serving my notice, and the hiring company could not wait.
  2. Relocation Timeline: The job location was in Bengaluru. Relocating across the country on short notice was not feasible without a minimum prep window of at least 15 days.

Is an Online Degree Worth It?

My overall experience with Amity Online’s placement drive was smooth and legitimate. For anyone asking whether online universities actually bring hiring partners to the table: Yes, job opportunities are actively provided on a regular basis.
However, clearing the interviews and securing competitive compensation depends entirely on your personal effort, skills, and prior experience. Higher salary packages (like 12 LPA+) are generally offered to candidates with relevant, prior work experience.

My Advice to Prospective Online Students

If you are planning to pursue an online degree (BBA, BCom, or MBA):
  • Looking back, I don’t think the MBA itself was what got me through the selection process. My existing work experience, ability to explain what I did in my current role, and the skills relevant to the position mattered much more during the interview.
  • Stay Productive: The real value of an online degree comes when you pair it with work experience, government exam preparation, professional certifications, or managing a business.
  • Avoid Sitting Idle: Simply staying at home for 2 to 3 years and applying for jobs without active skill-building will not yield the best career outcomes.
