Hello everyone! My name is Funmi Jaiyeoba. I am from Nigeria, and I am currently a student here at Cardiff Metropolitan University, pursuing an MBA in Human Resources.
I want to share my journey—from studying in Nigeria to moving to the UK—and why I chose this path.

Why I Chose to Study Abroad
Before coming here, I studied Mass Communication at Caleb University in Nigeria and started working. However, I always had a dream to do my Master’s abroad.
I chose the United Kingdom for a very practical reason: it’s not too far from home! It is only a six-hour flight from Nigeria. I figured if I ever got homesick, I could easily travel back home and return.
Discovering Cardiff Met
I found out about Cardiff Met through my agent. When he mentioned the school, I did my own research online. I realized it is a really nice school, and the fact that they have won the International Best Support award six times really stood out to me. I wanted a school that would take care of its international students.
My Passion for Human Resources
People often ask why I switched from Mass Communication to an MBA in Human Resources.
-
The Inspiration: In my previous job, I worked as a Personal Assistant (PA) and was eventually posted to the HR department.
-
The Observation: I saw how the HR team managed the organization—they knew the “day in and day out” of the business.
-
The Goal: I wanted to become a Human Resource Manager or a consultant. By doing my Master’s here, I can gain in-depth knowledge and work experience outside of school before proceeding with my career.
“I like the lecturer, Miss Catrin; she’s very nice. Everything she teaches is in-depth—covering what HR is all about and how to be a manager or consultant.”
Life in Cardiff: A Friendly City
At first, I thought the school would be “super big,” but it is actually just the right size. They really take care of us, and educationally, they are excellent.
As for the city of Cardiff, I love it!
-
Transportation: Unlike back home where getting on a bus can be stressful, here it is very easy to just “pop on a bus.”
-
Walking: Cardiff is a very friendly environment. I actually like walking here (sometimes!) because it is so different and less stressful than what I am used to.
Final Thoughts
Cardiff Met has been a great choice for my postgraduate studies. If you are looking for top-tier education and a supportive environment, this is the place to be!
