JAMB changes exam dates for 2022

by ajibolaaina February 1, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

JAMB has made a change to the previously declared date for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Exam (UTME). Exams for 2022, which were supposed to be held between April 20th and April 30th, have been moved to May 6th through May 16.

This was in the weekly bulletin from the JAMB. The board said that the change was made to deal with some problems.

JAMB changes the exam dates for 2022 so that more code can be used to make new profiles.

The board also said that the Mock-UTME exercise that was supposed to be held on April 2, 2022, will now be held on April 16, 2022, for candidates who register early and say they want to take the Mock-UTME.

This is not the time to soft-pedal your preparation for the 2022 UTME, so don’t do that. The best time to start preparing is right now, so don’t wait. If you haven’t already, get the JAMB CBT Mobile app and the JAMB CBT software. The app will also let you know right away if JAMB makes a big change that you need to know about.

The start date for the sale of the 2022 UTME/DE application document, which had been set for 12th February to 19th March 2022, hasn’t changed.

JAMB also said that a new USSD code will be made available, in addition to the already existing 55019 code that lets candidates use some of JAMB’s services, like making a profile code for UTME/DE registration. This was done to make sure there was no congestion during registration when many candidates would be asking for their profile codes to be made.

OSGoF collaborates with NAMA to create air travel maps

by ajibolaaina January 31, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

The Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) have agreed to collaborate on the production of various charts to improve the safety and security of air travel in the country.

Abuduganiyu Adebomehin, the Federation’s Surveyor General, revealed this during a meeting with the agency in Abuja, saying that the plan is a national initiative that makes maps and other instruments available to industry.

Adebomehin emphasized the importance of surveyors and technical staff working collaboratively to generate charts and maps that ensure the safety and security of aircraft and their passengers.

The SGoF raised concern about the government’s massive financial demands from diverse sectors, stating that going forward, the manufacturing of maps will provide geospatial services to citizens.

Additionally, Asifat Badmus, NAMA’s Deputy General Manager, stated that the apex surveying and mapping institution would always be required to provide the fundamentals for air traffic positioning for improved services.

According to him, it is necessary to update topographical maps and charts, as well as the data associated with them, in order for them to function properly and assist NAMA in producing charts that meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

The Chief of Naval Staff advices youths on military careers.

by ajibolaaina January 31, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

Vice Admiral Auwal Zubairu Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff, has urged Nigerian youths to broaden their horizons when considering careers in the Nigerian Navy and other armed forces.

Gambo, who was represented by Captain Aliu Umaru, Commanding Officer, Naval Base Oguta, Imo State, and other naval officers, revealed this at the donation of educational materials under the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) programme.

The initiative intended to improve learning in the schools that benefited, including Umunoha High School, Umunoha Community School, St. Paul’s Nursery and Primary School, and Obeakpu Primary School, all located in Umunoha, Mbaitoli Council, Imo State.

He pleaded with them to abstain from fraud, drug abuse, cultism, gangsterism, and terrorism, emphasizing that the Navy was committed to fostering an enabling environment conducive to the development of pupils and students, as evidenced by the donation to each of the benefiting schools of six magnetic whiteboards, 12 dusters, six packets of marker, 1,100 exercise books, 400 pencils, and 400 rulers, as well as the construction of six toilet blocks and the sinking

He also urged the civilian populace to unite with the armed forces in order to combat insecurity in the country.

“The Navy provides excellent career opportunities for young Nigerians, not only in terms of serving their country with dignity and pride, but also in terms of sailing the seas and seeing the world from the vantage point of sailors.

“As a result, I strongly encourage young people and students to seriously consider careers in the Navy. Apart from the Navy, you might explore a career in any of the Armed Forces, including the Army and Air Force,” he explained.

Mrs. Uchenna I. Amaefule, principal of Umunoha High School, responded by lamenting the institution’s condition of disrepair, saying: “Please express our plea to the Flag Officer and Commander to assist us as well in the area of infrastructure.”

“Our administrative and classroom buildings are in a state of disrepair. Our science laboratories are unremarkable. After class, our teachers congregate around the mango trees in the compound, waiting for the next lesson period to report to class. “We don’t have a place to call home,” she explained.

Governor Hope Uzodimma expressed delight over the donation of the materials and pledged to maintain a cordial relationship with the Nigerian Navy, Uzodimma was represented by Commissioner for Education Sylvester Okorondudu.

KWSG: Kwara State Reaffirms Hijab Policy Amid 2026 School Reopenings

by ajibolaaina January 26, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

In early February 2026, Kwara State is notably focused on education as schools reopen following security-related closures. While the hijab policy remains settled law, the administrative faces have changed.

Kwara State Reaffirms Hijab Policy Amid 2026 School Reopenings

The Kwara State Government has reiterated that the use of the hijab remains a fundamental right for willing Muslim schoolgirls in all public and grant-aided schools across the state. This reminder comes as schools statewide officially resumed academic activities on Monday, February 2, 2026, following a brief closure due to security operations.

The administration, now under the educational leadership of Dr. Lawal Olalekan Olohungbebe, has maintained the stance that religious tolerance and the rule of law are the bedrocks of the “State of Harmony.”

The Legal Standing

The government’s position is not a new decree but a reinforcement of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and various Court of Appeal judgments. These legal frameworks establish that:

  • Public schools (including those formerly owned by missionaries but now grant-aided) are subject to government policy.

  • The use of the headscarf is a manifestation of religious belief protected under the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.

  • The policy is voluntary, not mandatory—meaning no student is forced to wear it, but no student can be prevented from doing so.

Security and Peaceful Cohabitation

During a recent stakeholder engagement, the Ministry of Education cautioned that any attempt to disrupt the peace over the hijab issue would be met with legal action. This follows past tensions at institutions like Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo, which have since been directed to comply fully with the state’s uniform standards.

“Our focus in 2026 is building community resilience and ensuring our children learn in a safe, inclusive environment,” stated Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development.

Key Stakeholders and Current Leadership

The 2026 educational landscape in Kwara is managed by a team dedicated to performance and inclusivity:

  • Executive Governor: Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq

  • Commissioner for Education: Dr. Lawal Olalekan Olohungbebe

  • Ministry Permanent Secretary: Mrs. Mary Kemi Adeosun

  • Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) Chairman: Alhaji Taoheed Abubakar Bello

Representatives from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Muslim Stakeholders, and the National Union of Teachers (NUT) continue to engage in dialogue to ensure that the educational calendar remains uninterrupted by religious friction.
