Bayero University Kano: An Overview

Bayero University Kano, popularly known as BUK, is situated in Kano State, Nigeria. Founded in 1975, BUK is the first university situated in Kano State. It was upgraded from university college to a university and was renamed Bayero University College.

Bayero University was initially called Ahmadu Bello College. It was named after Ahmadu Bello; the former Premier of Northern Nigeria.

In January 1960, the Northern Nigeria Ministry of Education founded Ahmadu Bello College to prepare senior secondary certificate holders for A-level and G.C.E in Arabic, Islamic History, English Literature, Hausa, and Islamic Studies.

It was renamed Abdullahi Bayero College after the then Emir of Kano, Abdullahi Bayero. This was done after the establishment of Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Faculties in Bayero University include Agriculture, Education, Law, Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Earth and Environmental Science, Management Science, Pharmacy, Engineering, Arts and Islamic Studies, Social, and Clinical Sciences.

BUK also established the first International Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIIBF) in Nigeria.

Nigeria Defence Academy: Requirements, Recruitment, Form, and More

The Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, was founded in 1964. It is a military university established in response to defence needs, to train officers for commissioning into the Armed Forces of Nigeria: The Air Force, the Army, and the Navy.

Officers are trained at the Nigerian Defence Academy for a duration of 5 years (4 Academic years and 1 Military year).

Before NDA was established, the institution was previously known as the Royal Military Forces Training College (RMFTC). In 1960, after Nigeria’s Independence, it was renamed the Nigerian Military Training College.

The Nigeria Defence Academy is targeted at equipping officers with skills, knowledge, and values that are required for being a military officer through military and academic training. Another key goal of NDA is to produce officers who are well-versed in both academic and military exercises.

NDA offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to military and civilian students. It is the only accredited military university in Nigeria that offers programmes to students who want to become military officers.

Nigeria Defence Academy 72rc (72nd Regular Combatant Course)

Applicants who are seeking admission into the Nigeria Defence Academy 72nd regular combatant course for the 2020/2021 academic session are invited to apply.

The sale of the online application commenced on the 5th of December, 2019, and ended on the 14th of May, 2020.

The NDA screening test, which was held on the 16th of May, 2020, was conducted as the first stage of the Post UTME screening.

Candidates must score a minimum of 180 for faculties of Science and Military Science, Arts, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Social Sciences in JAMB UTME. Candidates seeking admission in the Faculty of Engineering must score a minimum of 210 in JAMB UTME.

Successful candidates admitted for Regular Course will be trained as Officer Cadets for a period of 4 years for the Nigerian Air Force and Nigerian Navy and 5 years for Nigerian Army Cadets.

After successfully undergoing military and academic training, they will bag an honors BSc, BA, or BEng degree. They will also earn a Presidential Commission into the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Cadet Officers are trained at the Nigeria Defence Academy for 5 years (4 Academic years and 1 Military year).

Army Cadets are trained for 5 years while Air Force and Naval Cadets are trained for a period of 4 years. At their respective training colleges, the cadet officers complete the remaining 1year training.

Just like other universities in Nigeria, successful candidates will bag a bachelor’s degree in their respective disciplines. They will, however, be distributed in the Armed Forces in the Nigerian Navy, Air Force, and Army.

NDA academic portal provides information about registration for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Visiting the official website, www.nda.edu.ng, will provide you with details about the sale of forms, degree courses, examination centres, eligibility, and a host of others.

 How to Join NDA

To join the Nigeria Defence Academy, one would need to purchase an online application form. To apply, candidates should visit the application portal, ndaapplications.net, to log in. Select ‘Purchase Access Code’ and complete the details.

The application attracts a cost of N35,000.  Applicants should make payment via REMITA. Anyone seeking admission must have applied for the JAMB UTME and chosen NDA as their first choice.

Applicants must submit the scanned copies of their SSCE results along with the application forms. Upon submission, they are required to download an ‘Acknowledgement Form.’

Afterwards, candidates will be invited for Stage 1 of the Post UTME screening; which is the screening test. They are required to bring relevant documents to the test centre; including Acknowledgement Form, JAMB Result Slip, Screening Test Admission Card, and two postcard size photographs.

Candidates that are successful in the first stage will be invited to Stage 2 of the screening test. Candidates, whose name was published on the list of admitted candidates, will appear before the Armed Forces Selection Board (AFSB).

 NDA Requirements

Below are the requirements for admission into the NDA degree programmes.

  • Candidates must be physically and medically fit.
  • Must be single and without legal obligations.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age and not more than 21 years old.
  • Must present a certificate of indigeneship.
  • Must possess a minimum of 5 credits, in relevant subjects in O’ Level. This should be obtained in not more than 2 sittings.
  • Must not be less than 1.65 meters tall for females and 1.68 for males.
  • Must have passed the JAMB UTME.
  • Candidates who can speak Arabic, French, or mandarin, have an added advantage.

Olabisi Onabanjo University is a state-owned institution of higher learning located in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

Founded in 1982, OOU was formerly called Ogun State University (OSU). In May 29, 2001, it was renamed Olabisi Onabanjo University. This was in honour of a former civilian governor of Ogun State, Chief (Dr.) Olabisi Onabanjo. His efforts gave rise to the establishment of the university.

Students of OOU receive information and updates through the university’s portal and social media pages, such as ‘OOU Campus,’ ‘OOU Update,’ ‘OOU Media,’ just to mention a few.

Olabisi Onabanjo University Post UTME

OOU’s Post UTME form for the 2020/2021 academic session is out. Registration is still ongoing and will end in December 18, 2020.

Candidates eligible for the Post UTME screening include:

  • Candidates who scored 180 or above in the 2020/2021 UTME result and chose OOU as the first choice of institution.
  • Candidates who did not choose OOU but scored 180 or above in JAMB, and are ready to change their first choice of institution to Olabisi Onabanjo University, on or before December 18, 2020.

To apply for the OOU Post UTME form, candidates are required to pay a sum of N2,000 for the screening exercise. Eligible candidates must create a profile through OOU’s portal: http://putme.oouagoiwoye.edu.ng/apply.php and generate a payment invoice.

Olabisi Onabanjo University Registrar

The institution’s registrar is Mr. Olufemi Ayodele Ogunwomoju. Mr. Ogunwomoju broke a thirty-five-year history by becoming the first alumnus to be appointed Registrar. A native of Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, he worked as an Administrative Officer in 1991 before rising to become the Deputy Registrar in 2007.
