EKSU students express dissatisfaction with the N78, 000 convocation fee

by ajibolaaina March 13, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

Students at Ekiti State University have taken to Twitter to express their displeasure with the institution’s administration over the imposition of a N78,000 convocation event fee for graduating students.

Recall that the school administration had announced on March 8 on the university website the combined 25th and 26th convocation ceremonies for graduates from the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 academic sessions, which will take place on May 1. Afterwards, the graduating students were requested to pay a fee of N78,000 to the university.

The students who used the hashtag #saveeksu to express their dissatisfaction with the N78,000 convocation fee characterized it as outrageous and extortionate.

“Acceptance fee 107,000, convocation fee 78,000 in a school that has no power, no good road, and no favorable learning environment?” said one Twitter user, @Im versatiles.

“Most parents borrowed money from LAPO and SEAP simply to ensure that their children could graduate, then EKSU wants them to go and borrow another $78k for convocation. ”

In a tweet, @Priesthood10 stated that

What do you think about giving them a job? “These individuals seek to make life intolerable for the average person.”

Another user, @Bayonle Adesua, shared his thoughts:

Is Una going to make them into daylight robbers because 78k is too much for poor parents and students? Our no to 78k before certificate collecting #SaveEKSU,”.

The convocation ceremony is set to take place in conjunction with the university’s 40th anniversary celebrations from the 23rd to the 30th of March in 2022.

This is to advise all new students that the University’s fifteenth (15th) Matriculation Ceremony has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. on all of the university’s campuses.

Students must pay the sum of #2,500 apiece to the Bursary (online) and provide proof of payment to the College Secretary in order for them to be eligible for the collecting of academic gowns on or before Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the end of the working day.

Applicants should be aware that the Matriculation list legally concludes all admissions processes for the year, and anybody whose name is not on the Matriculation list should consider himself or herself to have secured a place for the following year.

Additionally, all matriculants are asked to sign the matriculation vows on their individual campuses, which is similar to the previous requirement.

Once again, I would like to emphasize that proper registration and payment of the relevant fees are prerequisites for graduation.

LASU improves its certificate, includes a quick verification capability

by ajibolaaina March 10, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

Certificates issued to graduates of the 25th convocation and onward will now have an extremely unique feature known as quick verification.

The purpose of this intervention by the DICT is to further strengthen the security of the University’s Certificate while also making the verification procedure more convenient for everyone.

According to the Acting Director of DICT, with the new feature of the certificate, verification requests for certificates will no longer be required to be forwarded to LASU; as the technology inherent in the certificate and its photocopies will let the verification of the document without any compromise in the verification process life cycle.

He went on to explain that because security items are ubiquitous, papers may be validated using a smart phone, allowing for real-time decisions to be made on persons requesting to study abroad, those seeking promotions at their places of employment, and so on.

The DR Exams and Record also states that old certificates that were issued prior to the implementation of the newly implemented feature will still be subject to the existing process for conventional certificate verification, which is advertised on the LASU website, whenever the need for certificate verification arises.

If the verification procedure is successful, the verifier will be provided with pertinent information on the graduate, which he or she can print or save when the process is completed.

This endeavor is in support of the University’s digitization project, which is now underway.

As part of his remarks, the Registrar expressed appreciation for the Vice Chancellor’s efforts to shorten the life cycle of the present verification procedure and to reduce the number of complaints received as a result of delayed verification.
