Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic’s cut off mark is 120. For candidates to be qualified for the Post UTME screening and considered for admission, they must score a minimum of 120 in the 2020 UTME.

History of Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic

The historical event that led to the creation of Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic occurred 24 years ago. On the 19th of March, 1988, the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu, Oroworukwo, held its 5th Convocation Ceremony.

As Lt. Colonel Anthony Ukpo (now retired Brigadier General Ukpo), the then Military Administrator of Old Rivers State, was about to give his address to the convocation, he reached for his pen and inserted something into the address. As the Governor’s address progressed, this was revealed to be a pledge of a Polytechnic to the citizens of Rivers State. The stage was set for the events that led to the establishment of the institution from that point forward.

Then came a rapid sequence of events. The then Ministry of Education prepared planning options for the Polytechnic’s launch within two months, leading to the formation of a seven-member Provisional Governing Council on May 13, 1988, with Professor D.M.J. Fubara as Chairman.

The State Government concluded and signed contracts for the supply of Science and Engineering Laboratory and Workshop Equipment on July 7, 1988, and on July 20, 1988, the then Military Governor laid the Polytechnic’s Foundation Stone and named its first Rector and Registrar.

Group Captain Ernest Adeleye, the succeeding Military Governor, signed the Edict establishing the Polytechnic into law on March 28, 1989, and the Edict, which was gazetted as Edict No. 2 of 1989, gave the Polytechnic a permanent and legal status as a corporate body.
