A Brief Overview

Auchi Polytechnic is a federal government-managed and funded polytechnic situated in Auchi, Edo State. Founded in 1963, it is one of the first four polytechnics established in the country.

Auchi Polytechnic was initially established as a technical college, and the institution offered Ordinary Diploma level courses. However, these courses were limited to business and engineering.

The institution saw the need for skilled manpower in several disciplines and at a higher level. The Bendel State Government upgraded it to a polytechnic in 1973. The polytechnic was founded with the aim of training skilled manpower in several disciplines such as environmental studies, engineering, art and design, science, and business studies up to the Higher National Diploma (HND) level. The Federal Government took over Auchi Polytechnic from Edo State Government in 1994.

Auchi Polytechnic is undoubtedly one of the oldest and reputable polytechnics in Nigeria. The institution has enrolled over 10,000 students in several courses.

To qualify for the Post UTME screening, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Candidates must have sat for the 2020 UTME and scored a minimum of 120. There are courses that, however, require more than 120.
  • Candidates must have chosen Auchi Polytechnic as their first or second institution choice.
  • Candidates must possess a minimum of five credit passes in relevant subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) at O’ Level. These credit passes must be obtained at not more than two sittings.

Here’s how to apply for the Post UTME at Auchi Polytechnic:

Candidates are required to visit the polytechnic’s portal for their online applications. Then, after paying the Post UTME CBT screening fee of two thousand naira only, they will complete the online application form with the generated RRR.

To apply, follow the steps below:

  • Kindly visit the polytechnic’s official portal. To start the application process, click on Admissions 2020/2021.
  • Complete the details required. Your username should be your UTME Registration Number. Your password should preferably be your phone number.
  • Generate the REMITA payment invoice from the portal and visit a commercial bank (Fidelity Bank, EcoBank, Polaris Bank, or UBA) to make payment.
  • To complete the online application, visit the polytechnic’s portal and upload the required credentials. If requested, candidates should also complete the online eligibility clearance form.

Auchi Polytechnic is a federal government-managed and funded polytechnic situated in Auchi, Edo State. Founded in 1963, it is one of the first four polytechnics established in the country.

Auchi Polytechnic was initially established as a technical college, and the institution offered Ordinary Diploma level courses. These courses were limited to business and engineering.

The institution saw the need for skilled manpower in several disciplines and at a higher level. The Bendel State Government upgraded it to a polytechnic in 1973. The polytechnic was founded with the aim of training skilled manpower in several disciplines such as environmental studies, engineering, art and design, science, and business studies up to the Higher National Diploma (HND) level. The Federal Government took over Auchi Polytechnic from Edo State Government in 1994.

Auchi Polytechnic is undoubtedly one of the oldest and reputable polytechnics in Nigeria. The institution has enrolled over 10,000 students in several courses.

2. Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State

Yaba College of Technology, popularly known by its acronym YABATECH, is an institution of higher learning located in Yaba, Lagos State. Founded in 1947 as Yaba Higher College’s successor, the institution has enrolled over 16,000 students.

In 1969, it attained autonomous status by virtue of Decree 23. This granted the institution the opportunity to provide full-time and part-time courses in commerce and management, technology, agricultural production and distribution, and so much more.

The college is the first higher institution in the country to establish a Centre for Entrepreneurship Development.

The institution has 8 schools and 34 academic departments. 64 accredited programmes are being run in YABATECH, at National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), and Post-HND levels. Certificate courses are also offered in the institution.

Yaba College of Technology offers B.Sc. (Ed) courses in Technical and Vocational education. It also offers Postgraduate Diplomas in Engineering. These programmes are run in affiliation with the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

The college boasts of over 15,000 students that have enrolled for both full-time and part-time programmes.

Founded in 1970, the polytechnic succeeded the Technical College, Ibadan. It operates on a faculty system. The Polytechnic, Ibadan has five faculties.

The Polytechnic, Ibadan was founded to provide an alternative institution of higher learning to universities, especially in technical skill acquisition. It aims at providing training and development of techniques in Environmental, Engineering, Applied Science, and a host of others.

Poly Ibadan is one of the most recognized institutions in Nigeria, which has produced several prominent personalities.

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, popularly known as MAPOLY, is a state-owned institution of higher learning founded in 1980. Located in Abeokuta, Ogun State, it was established during the military administration of Harris Eghagha as Ogun State Polytechnic.

The institution is named after the late Nigerian businessman, politician, and 1993 elected president of Nigeria, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola. MAPOLY was initially established as Ogun State Polytechnic. In January 1979, the institution admitted its first set of 220 students.

Oke-Egunya and Onikolobo were the two temporary campuses that were initially established. Between April 1985 and March 1988, the polytechnic relocated to the Ojere campus.

MAPOLY has five schools which include: Science and Technology, Business & Management Studies, Engineering, Communication & Information Technology, and Environmental Studies.

The Centre for Part-Time and Diploma Programmes, on the other hand, is in charge of all part-time courses.

Kaduna State Polytechnic is a federal government-managed and funded institution of higher learning established in 1956 and located at Tudun Wada area of Kaduna South Local Government of Kaduna State. The institution was formerly known as Kaduna Technical Institute.

The establishment of Kaduna Technical Institute followed the decision made by the British Government to upgrade Yaba Higher College to a technical institute and establish technical institutes in Enugu and Kaduna.

The aim of Kaduna State Polytechnic is to groom students with vocational and technical skills that will be needed for sustainable development in the country. The school fees have been made affordable to students, thereby making it convenient for students to pay their fees without struggles while they focus on their studies. Kaduna State Polytechnic also provides efficient facilities such as a stable power supply and hostel accommodation.

Kaduna State Polytechnic offers National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in several fields such as Engineering and Agriculture.

Lagos State Polytechnic is a government owned higher institution situated in Ikorodu, Lagos State. Popularly known by the acronym LASPOTECH, the polytechnic was formerly called Lagos State College of Science and Technology.

At the undergraduate level, the polytechnic offers National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) courses.

With the promulgation of Lagos State Edict No. 1 of 1978, Lagos State Polytechnic was founded with retroactive effect from June 1, 1977.

Management and Business Studies, Accountancy and Finance, Insurance, Secretarial Studies, and Basic Studies were the five departments that began classes in January 1978 at a temporary location (now the Isolo Campus). The latter offered GCE ‘A’ Level Arts in the departments of Arts and Sciences.

The School of Agriculture in Ikorodu was integrated with the institution on August 1, 1978, and it became the nucleus of the new department site in Ikorodu. The Lagos State Government changed the name of the institution from Lagos State College of Science and Technology (LACOSTEC) to Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) in 1988, after ten years of operation.

Lagos State Polytechnic currently has over 56 accredited programmes. On its website, Lagos State Polytechnic operates a portal (EDUPORTAL): www.mylaspotech.edu.ng. The platform is currently being used to process admissions and registrations for full-time students and School of Part-Time Studies students.

The polytechnic, which started lectures with 287 pioneer students in 1978, now has about 50,000 full-time and part-time students. Currently, the polytechnic has three campuses: Isolo, Surulere, and Ikorodu. The latter now serves as the institution’s permanent location.

Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, popularly known as OSPOLY, is a state-owned institution of higher learning situated in Iree, Osun State.

Formerly a satellite campus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, the polytechnic became autonomous on the 12th of October, 1992. This happened when Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke, the first Executive Governor of Osun State signed the law which established the polytechnic alongside The Osun State College of Technology, which is located at Esa-Oke, Osun State.

The polytechnic commenced academic activities with eight programmes. These programmes were being run at Pre-ND, ND and ND levels. Osun State Polytechnic, however, currently has over thirty programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Federal Polytechnic, Oko, is a tertiary institution managed and funded by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Formerly known as College of Arts, Science and Technology, the polytechnic is one of the most recognized tertiary institutions in the country.

Federal Polytechnic Oko Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission into the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Candidates must possess a minimum of five credit passes in relevant subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) at O’ Level. It must be obtained at not more than two sittings.
  • Candidates must have obtained at least 120 in the 2020 UTME and chosen the polytechnic as their first institution choice.
  • Candidates must have obtained at least one year Post ND cognate work experience. In some cases, National Diploma holders with a pass and Post ND cognate work experience of not less than two years may be considered for admission to enroll in a Higher National Diploma (HND) programme.

About Kwara State Polytechnic

Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, is a tertiary institution managed and funded by the state government. His Excellency, Col. David Bamigboye, the then Military Governor of Kwara State, founded the polytechnic. During the launching of the four year development in 1971, a decision was made to establish Kwara State Polytechnic.

Following the promulgation of Kwara State Edict No. 4 of 1972, the institution was established in the state.

In January 1931, the institution commenced operation. Kwara State Polytechnic started with 11 academic staff members, 3 senior administrative staff, and 110 students.
