Students in Bauchi express dissatisfaction with the state government over the late payment of bursaries.

by ajibolaaina February 8, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

Students from Bauchi State who are members of the Air Marshal Abubakar Sadiq Students Forum (AMASS FORUM) have expressed their dissatisfaction with the state governor, Bala Mohammed, over the late delivery of bursaries to students in tertiary institutions.

In a statement to news outlets in Bauchi on Monday, Feb. 6, the forum’s chairman, Aliyu Hussaini, expressed concern about the numerous problems that students in Bauchi state are experiencing and stated that the forum is working on developing solutions to these issues, having begun to engage experts in various sections.

Hussaini stated that they were particularly concerned about the sponsorship of 200 students at Malikiyya College of Health, which had been offered by the previous administration but had been terminated by the current administration, as well as the segregation of Higher Islamic students from other tertiary institutions in the awarding of local scholarships, among other things.

They accused the governor of being hypocritical and only making the payment since elections were coming because the bursary had not been paid in the previous four years. They went on to say that they were looking for a replacement for the governor who was competent, disciplined, and had a wealth of administrative expertise.

A kidnapped Bethel student refuses to return home, claims that he is at ease with the bandits.

by ajibolaaina February 7, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

In spite of repeated attempts to rescue him from captivity, one of the 121 pupils from Bethel Baptist High School in Kaduna State who were abducted with their classmates on July 5, 2021, has allegedly refused to return to his family.

In an interview with Rev Joseph John Hayab, the state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), who made the announcement, the student stated that he feels comfortable with the bandits who kidnapped him and does not want to be reunited with his family.

It has been reported that the bandits were throwing gifts on the youngster, who is believed to be the youngest of all the abducted students, each time they went out and returned from operations, causing him to refuse the option of freedom from the captors.

It was also alleged that the bandits had approached the student on multiple occasions and begged him to accompany them home, but he refused each time, claiming that his parents always beat him at home.

More than six months after their abduction, all but one of the abducted students have regained their freedom, with the exception of one who has now elected to remain with the bandits rather than return home to his family.

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board will introduce a self-service registration portal

by ajibolaaina February 7, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is opening self-registration outlet in Abuja and Lagos in an effort to capitalize on the growing number of computer-savvy candidates.

According to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, the system would, in the long term, lessen the crowds at CBT centers in these locations. The intention of this noble notion is to advance the digital competence of candidates who believe they are capable of completing the registration process on their own, as well as to expand the number of registration access points in accordance with COVID-19 norms.

According to the service provider, Bankfort, the tremendous potential of the seamless registration method is the standard rather than the exception in more-developed countries, and that this is the case in the United States.

JAMB introduces additional USSD CODE, introduces WhatsApp as support and complaint platform

by ajibolaaina February 7, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released an additional USSD code and introduced WhatsApp as a help and complaint channel.

A new and optional USSD number, 66019, has been introduced by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to complement the existing 55019 code, which has been in use since 2018 for UTME/DE registration and other critical services provided by the Board.

Aim: To ensure that applicants have no trouble in creating their profiles for the 2022 UTME/DE registration exercise, particularly in a situation where a large number of them will be transmitting their requests using a single USSD code, as has been the case in previous years.

A summary of their functions is that they will be utilized to construct their profiles for registration by applicants participating in the UTME/DE in 2022 and 23. Candidate’s National Identification Number (NIN) must be sent to any of these USSD codes in order for their information to be pulled from the NIMC database before they can proceed to any approved center for biometric capture, as is customary.

In addition, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has implemented the usage of WhatsApp as an additional assistance and complaint channel. Candidates and other stakeholders would be able to communicate with one another in real time and receive answers to any questions they may have about the Board’s operational processes as a result of this additional platform.

To this purpose, ASD Technologies, the company that created the WhatsApp solution, announced that the platform would provide assistance with things like the “step-by-step” registration procedure, as well as a feedback mechanism to ensure that services are delivered effectively.

The platform is not intended to replace, but rather to supplement, the existing ticketing system, thereby increasing access to key services, among other benefits.

by ajibolaaina February 7, 2022

President Muhammadu Buhari has joined other stakeholders across the country in urging them to shelve their plans to go on strike.

President Buhari told the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that the Federal Government will follow through on its promises to eliminate disruptions of academic programs caused by strikes by boosting the funding of educational institutions.

He expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) for intervening in the year-long strike by the ASUU by having consultations with the parties involved.

ASUU Announces Indefinite Strike, Provides Details

by ajibolaaina February 5, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

The Nigerian lecturers’ union, ASUU, has expressed frustration with the federal government’s inability to meet its requests. As a result, union members voted to embark on an indefinite strike unless their demands were met and expressed as such.

The professors advised the administration to first keep the pledges it has previously made if it wishes to elicit cooperation from the union.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) announced an indefinite strike on Friday, February 4, in a statement signed by Dr Lazarus Maigoro, chairman of ASUU’s University of Jos branch, according to The Punch.

ASUU has decided to commence an indefinite strike until the federal government complies with its demands.

The lecturers’ organization expressed reservations about the federal government’s ability to overcome the persisting crisis in education, notably in higher education.

The union branded the federal government’s continuous defense of IPPIS as “shameful” in light of alleged fraud in its implementation as detailed in the 2021 report filed to the National Assembly by the Auditor General of the Federation.

FG demonstrated a lack of dedication.

ASUU bemoaned the numerous previous conversations and agreements with the federal government regarding how to restructure the education sector, which the administration has demonstrated a lack of commitment to implementing.

The following is the complete text of the statement:

“In the last one year, our Union has been engaged with the federal government and its officials over demands which, if met, would lift the standard of our battered tertiary institutions, especially the universities.

“The undisputed crisis in our educational sector has met, as with other consequences, nothing but the same response. Our union states very clearly that we appreciate the interest demonstrated by the Nigerian Inter-religion Council with a view to resolving the current impasse.

“However, it is not rational to continue to return to the same physician for the cure of an ailment introduced by him or one in which he has failed to cure or bring relief to his patient.

“From historical experience, we can conclude that NIRECs efforts with agents of government will be more prone to bringing further pain and anguish to the system. This will surely be the case if NIREC’s intervention ends with a palliative solution. This will lead to another phase of the same crisis. For the avoidance of doubt, our Union ASUU, has had several meetings with the Minister of Labour, Officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the NUC, and NITDA and, very recently with the Chief of Staff to the President.

“All these meetings have not calmed our members as the following issues still remain unresolved.

“The recent comments by the spokesman to the President, Mr. Femi Adesina that government will keep to the promises, rings very hollow to us. The government’s pattern of response to the issues is that of a serial promise-breaker. Like an unfaithful spouse, they are unable to match their words with action which is affecting the education sector negatively. We are tired of their deceit and IT IS TIME FOR US TO ACT.

“We want to inform Nigerians, that we are tired of fruitless meetings with the Minister of Labour, NUC Executive Secretary, Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, NITDA, and the Chief of Staff to the President. If they ever want us to listen to them, they should first of all act on the promises they have already made.

“In the meantime, we are resolved to proceed on an indefinite and comprehensive strike until fidelity returns to our relationship with the government and our demands are met. We are tired of the back and forth.”

Mike Bamiloye: How my wife used her allowance from the NYSC to help me

by ajibolaaina February 5, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

During a birthday celebration for his wife Gloria, Mike Bamiloye, veteran Christian filmmaker, expressed his gratitude for her contributions to his drama ministry and congratulated her on her 58th birthday.

In a lengthy Instagram post, the clergyman explained that his wife, back when she was serving in the National Youth Service Corps, used to send him her allowance so that he could organize activities for others.

Part of his message stated that the couple had been married since October 8, 1988, and that they had been blessed with three children and grandchildren since then.

Read the full statement below:

“What did she see in me when she said yes to my Proposal? She saw visions! She saw callings! She saw what I did not see! The girl who saw tomorrow!”

“I had been on full time ministry and she had been in school. I would collect money from her and use it to print program posters. Then when she began to work during f the one-year service, she would collect her allowance and bring it to me to use for programs.”

“Celebrate the girl who saw tomorrow! Ah! She never saw any inadequacies in me but visions and calling and ministry. No job, but ministry.”

“No house but only one room that contained all my belongings: standing hanger, cupboard, bookshelf, cooking pots and a standing fan that had no leg and a small black and white television.”

“She saw into the future! She saw greatness and relevance in the future. She married me at 24! And I was 28!”

“Today, she is 58 and still growing stronger in Him! Still looking radiant and beautiful!”

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bamiloye
