The Russian government has offered admission to Nigerian students who have been displaced by the conflict in Ukraine.

According to the Kremlin’s foreign minister, Russia is prepared to admit Nigerian students who have been displaced by the conflict in Ukraine to finish their education.

This offer was made by Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian Federation’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, at a meeting with Professor Abdullahi Shehu, the Nigerian Ambassador to the Russian Federation with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Belarus, on Friday in Moscow.

Russia considers Nigeria to be a strategic partner in Africa, according to Mr Bogdanov, who also serves as the Russian President’s Special Representative for the Middle East and African Countries. Mr Bogdanov also serves as the Russian President’s Special Representative for the Middle East and African Countries.

In his remarks, he stated that both nations will continue to work to deepen their current bilateral relations.

In addition, Mr. Bogdanov informed the Nigerian ambassador that preparations had been made by the Russian government to aid in the evacuation of Nigerian students who had become stranded in Kherson, Ukraine.

Assuring the Ambassador that the Russian Government will offer all necessary help to protect the safety and well-being of Nigerian people in the Russian Federation, he stated that

Their conversation covered a wide range of topics, including the current situation in Ukraine and the future development of the traditionally friendly Russia-Nigeria relationship. They also discussed efforts to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology, culture, humanitarian sphere and other fields during their conversation.

He remembered the friendly and mutually beneficial connections that existed between Nigeria and the Russian Federation in the previous years.

He cited the latter’s military and political help to Nigeria during the civil war, as well as its later assistance to Nigeria in the construction of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, as examples.

He went on to say that this includes help for the development of nuclear technology for peaceful reasons.

Mr Shehu responded by expressing gratitude to the government of the Russian Federation for its concern and help with regard to the condition of Nigerian citizens.

The President remembered the warm ties between Nigeria and the Russian Federation at the bilateral, continental and global levels, including Nigeria’s support for the Russia-Africa Summit as well as the two countries’ shared concerns about global challenges.

In the battle against terrorism, climate change and international peace and security are examples of such issues.

He further urged that the Russian authorities create the required favorable environment for the welfare and well-being of Nigerians in the Russian Federation, and that our bilateral relations be strengthened in all sectors, as desired by the Nigerian government.

A total of 1,121,123 candidates have been registered as of March 12th – JAMB

by ajibolaaina March 15, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

As of March 12th, 2022, over 1,121,123 applicants have registered for the current UTME/DE registration, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

This information was included in the board’s weekly newsletter. It is important for prospective candidates to remember that the registration deadline remains March 26.

On the same platform, JAMB pleaded with parents (especially those from affluent families), guardians, and school administrators to enable applicants to register for the Board’s UTME/DE on their own behalf.

In essence, applicants should be given the opportunity to traverse the registration procedure on their own time. This is due to the fact that the registration process itself, which necessitates the use of a computer, may prove beneficial, particularly for applicants who are fearful of computers, in the real test, which is computer-based in nature.

Furthermore, past experience has demonstrated that the vast majority of these intrusive parents, guardians, and school administrators only serve to complicate matters for the applicants.

According to one example, the Board discovered that the vast majority of the issues encountered by a particular category of candidates, which included some products of elitist secondary schools, can be traced back to the use of group registration, which invariably results in a mismatch between candidates’ data.

Using postpaid lines or a special bundle package, for example, may make it more difficult to provide the profiles code to the applicants’ registered SIMs, which is supposed to be supplied to their registered SIMs.

As a result, such attempts to get profile codes using a SIM card associated with a postpaid plan or any special package would only result in obtaining error answers such as “insufficient credit” or similar messages because, in reality, there is no money on the SIM card.

When such a SIM is recharged with a token of not less than fifty naira, the answer would be instantaneous, since the profile code would be received by the candidate as soon as the token was recharged.

ASUU extends strike for another eight weeks.

by ajibolaaina March 15, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced that its ongoing strike action would be extended for another eight weeks. In a lengthy meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC), which began on Sunday and lasted early on Monday morning, members of ASUU took the decision to strike.

The NEC conference took place at the University of Abuja, which serves as the union’s national secretariat. The Nigerian government, according to the ASUU, has shown insensitivity and is spreading misinformation.

A member of the ASUU National Executive Committee who did not want to be named in order to avoid disciplinary action by the union stated that a statement is now being developed by the organization’s leadership and that it would be circulated as soon as it is completed.

“Yes, we have prolonged the strike by eight weeks, pending the determination of whether or not the Nigerian government considers the university system to be worthy of the necessary attention.” A statement to that effect is now in the process of being written. We will make it available as soon as possible.”

While this is happening, the Federal Ministry of Education has stated that it would not engage into agreements with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) if it feels pressured to do so. ASUU was urged to call off its strike “so that we would not have gunpoint discussions and make promises that we will not be able to keep,” the ministry stated.

In a statement, he stated that the union has chosen to go on a complete and stifling indefinite strike beginning on Monday, March 14, 2022.

“The union is opposed to the use of coercion to enroll in the Integrated Payroll and Personal Information System  (IPPIS),” he stated.
