JAMB 2022: Registration Date announced as JAMB Adds Two More Subjects, New Rules

by ajibolaaina January 25, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

For the UTME/DE registration 2022, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that it will start on February 12th and last until March 19th.

New UTME subjects have been added to the 23 already available, making the total number of UTME subjects 25. Computer studies and physical and health education are the new additions.
Candidates can now choose any two other subjects as part of their four UTME subjects if they want to or if that is what their chosen program wants them to do.

On Foreign Education

The JAMB registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, a professor, also said that the examination body has set up a task force to help foreigners who took the UTME in 2021 get into Nigerian colleges and universities.

They want to grow Nigeria’s tertiary institutions and “reverse the trend of Nigerians going to foreign universities and instead seeing foreign students coming in their numbers to take up admission spaces in our tertiary institutions,” said the board member.

He said that part of the job of the team is to put together the results of foreign students and send them to the universities for them to look at.
Munirat Lawal is the director of test administration; Fabian Okoro is the director of information technology services; and Mohammed A. Mohammed is the director of admissions.

No NABTEB A Levels

Mohammed Ahmed, the director of admissions at JAMB, has written to the vice-chancellors of the universities and asked them to lay out A-Level results from the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).

Mr Ahmed said that NABTEB can’t do advanced level exams because of government rules.

“Any A/L GCE Certificate issued by NABTEB is, therefore, not registrable with JAMB, and the Board would not process the admission of any candidate with such a result.” This is what Ahmed said in the Board’s most recent weekly bulletin, which came out on Monday.

4 Year Medical Courses in Nigeria | Short Medical Courses

by Maryam A November 18, 2021
written by Maryam A

What is the Shortest Medical Course?

The shortest medical courses include the following-

1. Public Health

Duration: 3-5 Years

Public Health is a medical field that deals with ‘the science and art of preventing disease.’

It also deals with improving the quality of life and prolonging life through organized efforts and informed choices of individuals, communities, society, and organisations (public and private).

The foundation of public health is an examination of a population’s health determinants and the threats it faces.

The public can be as small as a few people or as large as a village or an entire city; in the case of a pandemic, it may span several continents. Therefore, physical, psychological, and social well-being are all considered in the concept of health.

2. Nursing

A picture of a nurse standing.

Duration: 3-5 Years

Nursing is a healthcare profession that focuses on the care of individuals, families, and communities in order for them to achieve, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life. Nurses can be distinguished from other health care providers by their approach to patient care, education, and scope of practice. Nurses practice in a variety of specialties, each with varying levels of prescription authority.

Nurses make up the majority of the workforce in most healthcare settings, but there is evidence of a global shortage of qualified nurses.

In addition, many nurses provide care under the supervision of physicians, and this traditional role has shaped the public perception of nurses as caregivers.

While a Degree in Nursing takes 5 years, Registered Nursing takes 3 years in a nursing or midwifery school.

3. Physiology

Duration: 4 Years

The science of life is known as physiology.

It is the branch of biology that seeks to understand the mechanisms of living things, beginning with the ionic and molecular basis of cell function and progressing to the integrated behaviour of the entire body and the influence of the external environment.

Physiology research helps us understand how the body works in health and how it responds and adapts to daily challenges; it also helps us determine what goes wrong in disease, allowing us to develop new treatments and guidelines for maintaining human and animal health.

Physiology is distinguished from the other life sciences by its emphasis on integrating molecular, cellular, system, and whole-body function.

Physiology is a four-year bachelor’s programme.

4. Anatomy

Photo Of a Woman Studying Anatomy

Duration: 4-5 Years

Anatomy is a branch of biology concerned with the identification and description of the body structures of living things.

Gross anatomy is the study of major body structures through dissection and observation, and it is only concerned with the human body in its most limited sense.

5. Medical Laboratory Science

Duration: 5 Years

In clinical laboratories, a medical laboratory scientist (MLS), clinical laboratory scientist (CLS), or medical technologist (MT) performs diagnostic testing on blood and body fluids.

A medical laboratory scientist‘s job begins with the collection of patient or client specimens and ends with the delivery of test results to physicians and other healthcare providers.

The usefulness of clinical diagnostic testing is entirely dependent on the validity of test methodology.

To that end, much of the work done by medical laboratory scientists entails ensuring specimen quality, interpreting test results, data-logging, testing control products, performing instrument calibration, maintenance, validation, and troubleshooting, and performing statistical analyses to verify the accuracy and repeatability of testing.

All types of Admission Status in Nigerian Institution and meanings

by Maryam A October 23, 2021
written by Maryam A

Admission Status: Meaning

Admission Status can be simply defined as the stage at which each prospective student’s application is being reviewed by admissions officers.

The outcome of the review will determine if a prospective student will gain admission into the institution or not.

Candidates often worry about their admission status because it will determine if they can study in their institution of choice.

For example, a candidate whose admission status shows ‘Admitted’ has been chosen by the institution to enroll for their course of study.

On the other hand, an admission status that shows ‘Not Admitted’ may mean that the candidate was not selected by the institution.

What are the Admission Statuses in JAMB and their Meaning?

A picture showing how to 'Check Your JAMB CAPS Admission Status'

CAPS ‘Not Admitted’

This is a notification informing you that no school has yet accepted your application. Therefore, the space for institutions and courses will most likely be empty or blank.

It does not imply that you will not be admitted. It simply indicates that no school has yet to offer admission.

If your proposed institutions haven’t already done so, wait for them to undertake post-UTME or entrance screening.

If they’ve already done so, they’ll normally give lists to JAMB to publish on students’ pages on a regular basis.

As a result, you’ll be checking your page periodically to see when it’s your turn.

CAPS ‘Admission in Progress’

The Admission in Progress (AIP) status indicates that JAMB has received your application for admission, but they will need to examine certain of the institution’s requirements to ensure that they are in compliance with the standards.

You should be pleased because it is the start of your path towards gaining admission. If you receive this notification, it is almost guaranteed that you will be offered admission.

JAMB will soon complete the process. Check your status on a frequent basis so you know when it will change.

CAPS ‘You’ve been Recommended for Admission’

This notification serves as confirmation that JAMB has received your name on the list, and you may rest assured that you will be admitted.

Your institution of choice has offered you admission, but JAMB must also approve it.

If you don’t meet up with your initial proposed course at this point, JAMB may decide to change your course.

Recheck your message until it changes to a joyful message.

CAPS ‘Admission is Approved’

You’ve been waiting for this joyful message and it is finally here! There’s no two way about this. It shows that you’ve been granted admission into your institution of choice.

Even if this notification does not specify which course or school is being offered, you can be confident that you have been accepted. Other information may take a few days to appear.

Keep an eye out for notifications indicating which school and which programme you’ve been offered. Simply review your profile from time to time.

CAPS ‘Accept or Reject Admission’

JAMB wants to make sure you wish to accept or reject the admission this time.

This is a particularly delicate period. JAMB does not want to allow you admission, and you subsequently lose interest in it.

This will prevent a student who wants to get admitted from doing so.

As a result, JAMB requests that you affirm that you wish to attend the school and do the course.

Don’t make light of this situation.

If you do not accept the offer, JAMB may revoke your admission.

Unless you accept the offer, you won’t be able to print the JAMB admission letter. So accept the offer if you’re comfortable with it, or decline it to make room for another student.

What Should I Do Next?

If you agree, print your JAMB admission letter and original JAMB results and wait for your school to submit your list to the school’s portal or contact you for documentation.

If you turn down the offer, you’ll have to wait and recheck your status to see if another institution will accept you.

What is JAMB CAPS?

A picture showing how to check one's admission status on the JAMB portal.

The JAMB Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) is an admissions processing system designed to ensure quality control, transparency, and credibility throughout the admissions process.

In the JAMB portal, JAMB CAPS provides for a “market place” where universities can “request for students in Nigeria who score their cut-off points.”

In addition, you have the option to accept or reject an admission offer received through the JAMB CAPS portal.

What are the Admission Statuses in WAEC, and their Meaning?

Interpretation of the WAEC grading system (by Percentage)

A1 (75% – 100%): Excellent

B2 (70% – 74%): Very Good

B3 (65% – 69%): Good

C4 (60% – 64%): Credit

C5 (55% – 59%): Credit

C6 (50% – 54%): Credit

D7 (45% – 49%): Pass

E8 (40% – 45%): Pass

F9 (0% – 44%): Failure

What are the admission statuses in Post UTME and What do they Mean?

Almost every Nigerian higher institution now has its own website.

The majority of these schools make an announcement when the admission list is released and post the names of accepted students on their websites.

Know the official website of your preferred school and keep an eye on it to see if any admissions announcements have been issued.

Candidates can check if they have been offered admission to any school in a variety of methods:

Notification through email

Several institutions require applicants to submit their email addresses as part of the admissions process.

Candidates are also notified of their acceptance via this media.

However, the terrible reality is that many applicants rarely check their email.

If you’re looking for a job, it’s a good idea to check your email address on a frequent basis in case your school decides to send admission notices via email.

Notification through SMS

During the Post-UTME or entrance registration process, most schools will want you to submit your active phone number.

In addition, many of these institutions will send a text message to the phone number you provided when you applied for admission to notify you that you have been accepted to the school.

As a result, it is recommended that candidates submit their current phone numbers when applying for admission.

Matriculation List of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)

JAMB just recently added this. Candidates can check the JAMB Matriculation List portal to see if they have been offered admission and if their admission has been verified by JAMB.

JAMB CAPS

Prospective applicants seeking admission to various tertiary institutions can use the JAMB Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) to track their admission status and find out when they have been given admission by any institution.

School Portal

The majority of Nigerian tertiary institutions make an announcement when the admission list is released and post the names of accepted students on their websites.

Know the official website of your preferred school and keep an eye on it to see if any admissions announcements have been issued.
