KWSG: Hijabs are allowed in Kwara Schools

by ajibolaaina January 26, 2022
written by ajibolaaina

The Kwara State Government has reiterated that willing Muslim schoolgirls are permitted to wear the headscarf in all categories of public schools in the state.

Additionally, the administration cautioned that anyone disrupting the state’s peaceful cohabitation would face the full force of the law.

Hajia Sa’adatu Madibbo Kawu, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, disclosed this during a calm meeting between Muslim and Christian stakeholders in Ijagbo, Oyun local government area, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Ilorin.

“The Kwara State Government’s policy declaration allowing willing Muslim schoolgirls to wear the hijab in all public schools, including those receiving grant funding, is binding. This is consistent with legal declarations and the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution,” she stated.

As a result, she pleaded with both Muslim and Christian authorities to allow for the establishment of peace in the State.

Following that, Hajia Modibbo-Kawu asked the principals of Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo, to immediately execute the policy statement on the usage of approved hijab in public schools.

The Honourable Commissioner warned that anyone attempting to undermine Kwara State’s peaceful coexistence will face the full force of the law.

The Honourable Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu; the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Mary Kemi Adeosun; the Executive Chairman Teaching Service Commission, Alhaji Taoheed Abubakar Bello; TESCOM Board Members; ANCOPSS President, Alhaji Toyin Abdullahi; and the NUT Caretaker Chairman, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi were present at the meeting.

Additionally in attendance were Rev. Samuel Ajayi, Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria, Ijagbo; Rev. Dr. Gbadeyan B. A., and Mr. Faleye Segun, President, Ijagbo Youth Association. Alhaji Abubakar AbdulWasiu, Chairman Muslim Stakeholders, Offa & Oyun Local Government; Taofiq Oyetunde, Secretary; Alhaji Isiaka AbdulKareem, Chairman Kwara State Muslim Stakeholders; and Prof. Abubakar Imam Aliagan, among others, were also on the Muslim side.
